It’s been only six years since Genoveva Christoff immigrated to the United States from Macedonia and only two since she graduated from CCAD’s fashion design program, but Christoff may soon have a dress she designed walking down an American style institution, the red carpet.
Christoff is one of five finalists — whittled down from more than 670 entrants — in a national dress design competition presented by the E! show “Live From the Red Carpet.” The final five dresses are being constructed by internationally known designer Adrianna Papell, and the public will get to vote on its favorite this week.
An unnamed celebrity will wear the winning design during a Hollywood red carpet event, and the contest’s retail partners could potentially sell reproductions of the dress at their locations.
Not bad for a social worker turned designer whose first major runway collection debuted only last fall at Fashion Week Columbus.
“I saw the call for entries on Facebook and put something together kind of fast,” Christoff said.
That something would be a sweeping floor-length chiffon-over-taffeta number in peach, blue and gold fabrics.
“It feels really good. It’s really good exposure,” she said. “All the dresses are beautiful. I can’t wait to see who wins.”
